Types of Energy
Mental Energy
Your mental energy is drained if you are doing too many things at one time. Do you rush around in the morning, misplace your cell phone, or schedule appointments too close together? Mental energy is largely based on processing information and being focused and attentive.
Physical Energy
Your physical energy is drained if your body is not balanced. Allergies, sleep apnea, low on vitamin D, low B12, poor diet- sugar, caffeine, too many calories, not enough calories, anemia, celiac disease, hypothyroidism, low oxygen levels, alcohol, too little exercise or too much, dehydration, adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance, chronic infections, inflammation, medication side effects, autoimmune conditions, heart disease, cancer and treatment of cancer, and lack of proper sleep schedule.
Start Here
The first step in determining why you are experiencing low energy is by ruling out physical imbalances that require medical and/or nutritional intervention. Sometimes, the imbalances are corrected with simple adjustments that can really change your life. Other times, they require more in-depth medical nutrition therapy and/or medical attention.

Energy Health Solutions
The type of lab work I order is used to identify imbalances in your body that are root causes of your symptoms.
Food Sensitivity Testing – I use this test as a tool to create a diet plan that is unique to your biochemistry and will pinpoint exactly which foods are creating an inflammatory response in your body and robbing you of your energy.
Hormone Testing – This saliva test determines if your progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and DHEA levels could be contributing to your low energy levels.
Adrenal Testing – This is my go-to test when clients have experienced major stressors in the past or are currently experiencing more stress than usual. Stress can disrupt adrenal function. This saliva test determines how well your body is responding to stress by looking at your cortisol levels throughout the day. Your low energy can be from low cortisol output. Until this is corrected, it will be difficult to pick up your energy levels any other way.
GI MAP Testing – This test detects microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance or contributing to your low energy levels, as well as indicators of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and immune function, all from a single stool sample.
Micronutrient Testing – This test can pinpoint vitamin, mineral, amino acids, and omega-3 fatty acid deficiencies, as well as assess cellular absorption that could be affecting your energy levels.
Diet Prescription
This diet prescription is a general list of recommendations for this health concern.
This will largely depend on what we find from your assessment and lab testing. If we have ruled out physical imbalances requiring testing, then I recommend working on making general nutrition changes (more water, more whole foods, less sugar, less caffeine, less processed food, etc.). If you need my assistance in creating a plan, please visit my Meal Planning page for more information.
