Rachelle Lemon, MS, RD, LD, CLT
Hi! I am Rachelle Lemon.
I am a dietitian who specializes in holistic health/functional medicine. This is a fancy way to say I will figure out the root cause of your health issue and help you do what the body is designed to do…heal itself naturally. Welcome to my (mostly) telehealth functional nutrition practice, trUbalance Nutrition. So glad you found me. Keep reading, it gets really good. You are in the right place!
“It is time for something different” is my slogan. Why? You may ask. How is my practice different from all the nutrition advice out there? Well, it’s simple. I check all your boxes.
My Health Story
I was diagnosed with psoriasis when I was 12 years old. There is nothing worse for a middle schooler than standing out in a way they hadn’t chosen. I will tell you that going to middle school with scaly red patches all over my body was not the best way to boost a girl’s confidence. Being asked, “What’s wrong with you?” ten times a day can take its toll mentally and emotionally. However, through the tears, embarrassment, and frustration, I came to a place where I felt liberated. I finally took ownership and accepted my condition. Owning it made me appreciate my body at a very early age and it helped me develop a new sense of gratitude for the skin I live in.
I have seen multiple dermatologists and physicians over the course of my life for psoriasis. Never once did any of these medical professionals have a conversation with me about stress management or poor nutrition as the cause of my flare-ups. I was prescribed steroid creams, oral steroids, UV treatment, tar baths and antibiotics. In fact, over the last 20 years the treatment advice has not changed. I take that back; they have added anti-anxiety medication to the list. I am not angry or disappointed with my doctors. I understand they treat the symptoms, not the cause.
For some patients, symptom management is where they find the most relief and are often satisfied with their results. And that is ok. It just wasn’t ok for me.
After all these years, I have pinpointed the cause of all my psoriasis flare-ups. They are directly related to how well I am taking care of myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. Today, I have successfully treated my skin by relying on nutritional testing to determine my body’s imbalances. I used the power of nutrients to heal me both on the inside and out. I have addressed my stress and adopted a meditation and fitness regime that works for me. Today, I am so thankful for my spots as they are my truth sayers. They serve as reminders to me to take care of my health. In fact, I believe most health conditions serve as reminders to take care of ourselves. It is up to us to listen and do something about it.
